Thought of the week

"As the Church struggles with the challenges of an aggressively dismissive world, there is a tendency to look back to some golden era of the past when the Church was all that we would like to think of it as being - and a roseate glow descends as we think about the ideal church of the New Testament - the sort of one big happy family that Luke seems to describe in the book of the Acts of the Apostles. We like the idealized picture given there.
Howeve, they were people in all their ragamuffin individuality, and with all their own agendas, and all their private pains and postures. The Early Church much though we might like to think otherwise, was not the ideal church.
