"By making Communion, over the years, serve as a kind of badge of membership, a terrible distortion was built into the thinking and practice of the Church - to the extent that, instead of being something at the heart of the normal life of the church and the Christian, it has been ripped out of the context of normal church life - and set on a rather wobbly pedestal, as a sort of last vestige of belonging - the absolute lowest common denominator of Christian connection -

"At least I go to Communion " sort of thing...thereby tearing it from its rightful place at the heart of the ongoing Christian life of individual and Church."
